Survivors Helping Other Women Survive
Project Title: SHOWS
Amount Funded: $2,500
Project Description: Survivors Helping Other Women Survive/SHOWS has a proactive and culturally tailored program that offers patient navigation, peer-to-peer education, group education and utilization of non-traditional settings such as AA churches to help raise awareness. ‘Edutainment’, entertainment that educates, comes in the form of plays written by AA survivors followed by in-depth information on breast health, breast cancer, the importance of early detection, survivorship support and screenings for improved survival rates. Partners from hospitals, community outreach organizations and BCCP are present at each event to increase awareness, provide access to screening and decrease barriers to quality care.
